Monthly estimate assumes ~87 hours/month (20 hours a week). “vs min wage” compares the lower end of each range to the statutory floor of RM8.18/hour.

Ranges aggregated from public Malaysian job-board listings (Jobstreet, Indeed) and rate guides, June 2026. These are typical market ranges, not guaranteed pay — actual rates vary by employer, location and experience. Minimum wage figure per the Minimum Wages Order (RM1,700/month, universal since August 2025).

How Much Do Part-Time Jobs Pay in Malaysia?

The legal starting point is the minimum wage of RM1,700 a month, which translates to roughly RM8.18 per hour for hourly-paid and part-time workers. As of August 2025 there are no more exemptions — every employer, from a one-person shop to a multinational, must meet this floor. In practice, most basic part-time roles in retail and food & beverage pay a little above it, around RM10–14 an hour.

Pay rises with skill and inconvenience. Night shifts, weekend roadshows and physically demanding warehouse work push rates into the RM13–20 band. Skill-based work is where the real money is: in-person tutoring runs RM25–60 an hour, and online tutoring or coaching can reach RM50–100. Working 20 hours a week, a basic job brings in roughly RM870–1,220 a month, while skilled work can clear RM2,000 on the same hours.

Watch the real rate, not the headline one. Food-delivery riders are often quoted at RM13–20 an hour, but that is gross — once you subtract petrol, phone data and bike wear, take-home is meaningfully lower. Use the take-home calculator for salaried roles, and remember that genuine part-time employees are entitled to EPF and SOCSO, while independent gig workers are not automatically covered.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the minimum pay for a part-time job in Malaysia?

The 2026 minimum wage is RM1,700 a month, about RM8.18 per hour for hourly-paid workers. Since August 2025 it applies to every employer with no exemptions, so any legitimate part-time job should pay at least this rate.

Which part-time jobs pay the most?

Skill-based work pays the most per hour — online tutoring (RM50–100), in-person tutoring (RM25–60) and freelance design or content (RM30–80). Among non-skilled roles, warehouse, event crew and food delivery top the RM13–20/hour band.

Do part-time workers get EPF and SOCSO?

Yes — part-time employees earning wages are entitled to EPF (KWSP) and SOCSO/EIS just like full-time staff, under the Employment (Part-Time Employees) Regulations. Independent gig riders working as contractors are not automatically covered, though SOCSO has a self-employment scheme.

Is the quoted delivery-rider rate take-home pay?

No. Food-delivery earnings of RM13–20/hour are gross. After petrol, phone data and vehicle wear, your real hourly take-home is lower — factor those costs in before comparing it to an employed role that pays the same headline rate.
