💡 Read the rates smartly
Promo rates usually need fresh funds & a minimum amount. Step-up or CASA-bundled rates that advertise a high headline (e.g. "6%") may only deliver a much lower effective rate (EIR) — work out the true EIR, not the headline.
All deposits are protected by PIDM up to RM250,000 per depositor per bank.
Frequently asked questions
Are these rates "live" (real-time)?
The OPR is pulled live from Bank Negara's official API. Per-bank FD promo rates have no official API feed, so they're updated manually (as of July 2026). Always verify on the bank's website before placing a deposit.
Why are FD rates getting lower?
FD rates track the OPR. Bank Negara cut the OPR to 2.75% (July 2025), so banks lowered FD rates too. When the OPR rises, FD rates usually follow back up.
FD or ASM / money market fund?
ASM (~5%) usually beats an FD but units are limited; money market funds (Versa/StashAway ~3.3–3.6%) match an FD but with no lock-in. See our passive-income guide.
