Data & Methodology

How we compile and present Malaysia salary data — and its limitations.

We believe salary data is only useful if you can trust where it comes from. This page explains exactly how CariGaji's figures are sourced, structured, and what they do — and don't — represent.

1. Where our data comes from

Salary ranges on CariGaji are compiled from publicly available Malaysia salary guides published annually by established recruitment firms, including:

  • Michael Page Malaysia — annual salary benchmark reports
  • Hays Malaysia — salary guides across industries
  • Randstad Malaysia — market and pay insights

We do not collect, purchase, or publish any individual's personal salary information. Every figure is an aggregate market estimate, never tied to a specific person or employer.

2. What the experience levels mean

Level Typical experience
Junior0–3 years — fresh graduates and early-career professionals
Mid3–7 years — established individual contributors
Senior7+ years — senior, lead, and managerial roles

3. Scope & assumptions

  • Currency: all figures are in Malaysian Ringgit (RM), gross monthly salary unless stated otherwise.
  • Location: figures reflect the Klang Valley (Kuala Lumpur & Selangor) market, which typically pays more than other states. Penang and Johor are often comparable; East Malaysia and smaller towns may be lower.
  • Median: the median is the mid-point of the range — half of professionals earn above it, half below. It is more representative than an average.
  • Year: each page shows the reference year of the underlying salary guide.

4. How often we update

Salary guides are published annually, and we refresh our figures as new editions become available. Because the job market moves, treat every figure as a benchmark for the stated year, not a real-time quote.

5. Important limitations

Actual pay varies widely based on company size, specific skills, certifications, industry, and your individual negotiation. Two people with the same job title can earn very differently.

CariGaji is for general informational and educational purposes only. It is not financial, career, or legal advice, and should not be the sole basis for any salary, employment, or financial decision.

6. Found an error?

If a figure looks wrong or out of date, please tell us via the Contact page — corrections from people working in the field are exactly how we keep the data honest.
